Holden Beach

Quaint, relaxed little island community.

Welcome to Holden Beach

Holden Beach is the epitome of coastal Carolina living. This beautiful barrier island is dotted with brightly colored pier houses, post-frame homes, and luxurious vacation properties. Across the island are beachfront homes, cozily neighborhood homes, and rows of homes with back piers nestled into canals connecting to the Intracoastal Waterway. Whether you dream of life on the water instead of by car, an escape from sandy shores covered in beautiful seashells, or are looking for the perfect place to settle down away from the bustle of city life, you’ve found it at Holden Beach.

What to Love

  • Canal neighborhoods with dozens of homes on the waterway
  • Seashell-covered pristine beaches
  • Impossibly fresh seafood and excellent restaurants
  • Breathtaking views from the island to mainland bridge
  • Spacious and relaxed small town design

Local Lifestyle

The very first thing you’ll notice about Holden Beach is the bridge. This sweeping structure gives those who arrive on Holden Beach a gorgeous aerial look that nearly spans both ends of the island. You can see the comfortably spaced homes, the welcoming canals, and the seashell-covered pristine beaches.

Living in Holden Beach is a quaint and relaxing experience. Everything you need is down the street or across the bridge in South Brunswick. What is remarkable about South Holden is that homes and buildings are charmingly spaced (unlike other summer vacation destinations in the Coastal Carolinas). Enjoy a delightfully spacious and almost rural feel in this community, with the convenience of nearby luxury services.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

To find a delicious meal in Holden Beach, simply skim the waterside or ask your nearest neighbor where they most like to eat. One of the best stops for year-round cuisine is the Provision Co, a fishing shop-themed restaurant with casual terrace dining that overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway just on the mainland side of the bridge. Down the road, you’ll find LouLou’s Waterfront Grill, another beautiful seafood restaurant overlooking the Intracoastal on the mainland side. You can’t miss the blue sea turtle theme celebrating the local sea turtles that nest on Bald Head Island.

If you’re looking for an energy boost on the island, swing by Ocean Boulevard Coffee, just across the street from the beach, for coffee and smoothies. For a laid-back lunch, walk up from the beach to the Mermaids Island Grill. This surprisingly charming blue seafood restaurant has warm wooden decking, exposed beams, and stairs connecting the two stories of indoor-outdoor dining (say hello to the mermaid on your way in).

Things to Do

Holden Beach is a relaxed place where the best things to do are usually at the beach or in the water. Water sports, sunbathing, fishing, and marine biology are at your fingertips. Start a beautiful collection of natural seashells, which gather on the barrier island sand all year round. Mark your calendar for the annual Day at the Docks Festival, which features the best this town has to offer. Holden Beach is also home to the NC Festival By the Sea.

Schools

A very narrow island, Holden Beach does not have any schools. It shares the mainland schools of Southport and Brunswick County along with other nearby island communities. Parents can select between private and public schools, including charter schools and accelerated college prep. Students may attend:
